Silver grass looks great planted throughout a property as ornamental accents. Plan to place two rhizomes in holes that are 18 inches apart in bunches for single area accents. When making a border fence you should roto-till up a 36″ path/trench and remove all weeds and grasses before planting.
As a rule of thumb, we recommended that you order at least one rhizome per linear foot, when making a border line, but you do not plant them that close.
One idea we really like is planting the silver grass as a natural privacy border, like you see in most of the pictures on our site. Plan to dig a hole every 18 inches in a zigzag pattern. Place two rhizomes in each hole for maximum fence density and to ensure the most-efficient and even growth throughout.
In addition to privacy, this natural fence provides a great barrier preventing snow and wind from devastating your property in the winter months. They make a great wind, dust, noise and snow break.
